El Roca Favourite in 2014 Randwick Guineas Betting Markets

March 13th, 2014

Following a strong 2013 and proven form so-far this season, exciting colt El Roca has claimed outright favouritism in betting markets for this weekend’s Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m).

El Roca, who can currently be taken at odds of $4.20, has finished outside the places just once in six race starts so far, and was unlucky not to claim the Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) in just his third appearance on course last preparation.

Having returned to the track in great condition in 2014, El Roca comfortably strolled home to claim the Listed Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) first-up before finishing a tight second to Terravista in the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup (1300m) last weekend.

Despite drawing the rather awkward barrier 14 for the 2014 Randwick Guineas, El Roca will be partnered by regular jockey Hugh Bowman and will particularly hard to beat.

Atlante is yet to finish outside the places in his six career starts to date, and has returned the track in scintillating form in 2014, to register on the second line of betting for the 2014 Randwick Guineas at a quote of $6.

Finishing an unlucky second to Dissident in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) first-up on March 1st, punters have responded to Atlante scoring the ideal barrier 5 for Saturday’s feature race and jumped all over opening odds of $6.40 for the exciting Fastnet Rock colt.

Classy Peter Moody-trained runner Dissident has returned to the track in prime condition this season following a particularly consistent 2013 spring.

Unlucky to finish second to El Roca in the Eskimo Prince first-up, the Sebring colt produced a strong turn of foot to hunt down the leaders and win the Hobartville Stakes last time out; securing the ideal run into his first tilt at Group 1 success this season.

Dissident’s claims on Randwick Guineas success took something of a hit on Thursday when allocated barrier 13, however will be partnered by leading jockey Jim Cassidy who has proven to be an ideal partner to the three-year-old.

Only two other runners currently feature at odds of less-than $10 in Randwick Guineas betting markets; Gai Waterhouse-trained Bull Point ($8.50) and exciting colt Eurozone ($9.50), who was arguably the biggest winner at Wednesday’s barrier draws after receiving gate 8.

Following a standout maiden year in 2013 which delivered three wins and three places over his six starts, Gerald Ryan-trained Koroibete has been a favourite amongst punters in Randwick Guineas betting markets, who have snapped up an opening quote of nearly $40 to register the three-year-old as undoubted $34 market mover.

Koribete was unable to make much of an impact when seventh in the Hobartville Stakes first-up, but will be partnered by in-form jockey Brenton Avdulla and will leave from barrier 3 this weekend in the Randwick Guineas.
