Shooting To Win to Target 2015 Randwick Guineas

December 2nd, 2014

Delivering trainers Peter and Paul Snowden a maiden Group 1 victory as a training partnership over the 2014 Spring Racing Carnival, Shooting To Win is back in work ahead of a 2015 Autumn Carnival geared towards the Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m).

Finishing outside the places just once over his impressive seven race career so far, Shooting To Win beat just one runner home in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) first-up on August 23rd but quickly found his feet in running second in the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) and third in the featured Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m).

Continuing to impress when winning the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) on September 7th, the Northern Meteor colt more than stamped his claims as a serious 2015 racing contender when charging home to beat clear favourite Rich Enuff in the featured Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) last time out on October 11th.

Understandably thrilled with Shooting To Win’s most recent campaign, Peter Snowden told TVN the three-year-old has been back working for three weeks and is unlikely to stretch past a mile this time in.

“He will come back and run in the Royal Sovereign, Hobartville and the Randwick Guineas, then we’ll assess where he’s at,” Snowden said.

“He was already a magnificent-looking horse and very mature for his age. He hasn’t grown a lot but he’s put on some condition.

“What it comes down to is whether he’s good enough – it’s as simple as that.

“I don’t think we’ll stretch him past a mile this autumn.

“He went straight to the paddock after winning the Guineas, which is early, and that’s turned out to be a blessing.”

Charging home to win a minor over 1200m on debut on May 29th, Shooting To Win repeated the dose over a classy field in another race over 1250m on June 7th before returning to the paddock for a brief spell in the lead-up to spring.
