March 4th, 2015

Only eight runners have been confirmed for Saturday’s featured Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) in Sydney, highlighted by the confirmation of several previous winners at the highest level of racing and some of the Autumn Carnival’s most exciting prospects.

Hallowed Crown returned to racing this season for an exceptional victory in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago, and has been confirmed in the 2015 Randwick Guineas final field.

Immediately stamping his claims as one to watch over a short debut preparation late last autumn, Hallowed Crown jogged home to win a minor over 1150m before successfully transitioning to black type company in taking out the Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m).

Returning for success in the Group 3 Run To The Rose (1200m), the Street Sense entire overcame the wide and awkward barrier 14 to win the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) on September 13th, and returned to the paddock having clearly had enough when fourth in the Group 2 Roman Consul Stakes (1200m).

Allocated the ideal barrier 1, Hallowed Crown has been confirmed to be partnered by regular jockey Hugh Bowman.

Arguably the two most talented three-year-olds yet to break through for a Group 1 victory, Sweynesse and Scissor Kick have also been included in the 2015 Randwick Guineas final field.

Taking out a pair of minor events on debut in winter and early spring, Sweynesse (barrier 8) stamped his claims as a serious racing competitor when claiming wins in both the Group 3 Spring Stakes (1600m) and Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m), but was unable to match the late pace of Hampton Court when third in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m).

Ending his campaign with the fastest final sectional of all runners when eighth in the Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m), the Lonhro colt was unlucky to finish second in the Hobartville Stakes first-up, and is sure to relish the step up to a mile this weekend.

Claiming victories in each of the Listed Rosebud (1200m) and Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1200m) before running second in the Golden Rose, Scissor Kick continued to impress when placing a close second in the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) on September 27th, but was unlucky to be drawn on the wrong side of the track when ninth in the Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on November 1st.

Returning for success in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) and fifth in the Hobartville, the Redoute’s Choice colt is sure to receive an ideal trip from barrier 3 this weekend.

Group 1 winners Preferment (barrier 7) and Shooting To Win (barrier 2) have also been confirmed in the 2015 Randwick Guineas final field, while Kermadec (barrier 5), Rhodin Drive (barrier 6) and Sworn To Silence (barrier 4) complete the group of seven.
