2015 Randwick Guineas Tips and Betting Preview

March 6th, 2015

Just six runners remain in contention for Saturday’s featured Group 1 Randwick Guineas (1600m) in Sydney following the scratching of Kermadec and Scissor Kick; offering punters even better value from a betting standpoint and several opportunities to place a winning bet.

Shooting To Win and Hallowed Crown both won Group 1 races through the 2014 Spring Carnival, and remain tied favourites for success in 2015 Randwick Guineas betting markets at a quote of $2.60 each, ahead of Sweynesse ($3.40) with leading online bookie Ladbrokes.com.au.

Will either of Shooting To Win or Hallowed Crown win the 2015 Randwick Guineas, or will one of their opponents find the line in the clear?

Sweynesse ($3.40)

Finishing outside the top three just once in seven competitive starts, Sweynesse savaged the line when finishing a close second in the Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) first-up and will relish the step-up to 1600m this weekend, and is therefore more than worth consideration for a 2015 Randwick Guineas bet at current odds. Taking out each of his first four starts including both the Group 3 Spring Stakes (1600m) and Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m), Sweynesse posted two impressive efforts in Group 1 feature races and appears primed for a maiden win at the highest level in the Randwick Guineas.

Shooting To Win ($2.60)

A Group 1 winner over the distance, Shooting To Win will take priceless condition from a first-up run for fourth in the Hobartville Stakes and is a leading chance for success in the Randwick Guineas. Returning in spring for a disappointing eighth in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m), the Northern Meteor colt continued to build in form and class over increasing distances; posting minor place finishes in each of the Group 3 Ming Dynasty Quality (1400m) and Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) before taking out the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes (1500m) a fortnight prior to his Group 1 Caulfield Guineas triumph. Allocated the ideal barrier 2, Shooting To Win has been confirmed to be partnered by Blake Shinn on Saturday.

Hallowed Crown ($2.60)

While clearly the formed runner of the small 2015 Randwick Guineas field, Hallowed Crown is yet to contest an event further than 1400m, and there is no telling if he will relish the 1600m posted for this weekend’s feature race. Winning each of his first four competitive starts; three at black type level including the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m), the Street Sense colt has been confirmed to be partnered by leading jockey Hugh Bowman and will leave from the rails draw.
