2016 Randwick Guineas a Target for Too Good To Refuse

January 13th, 2016

Trainer Desleigh Forster has been thrilled with the form displayed by Too Good To Refuse since returning to work this time and has revealed the 2016 Randwick Guineas (1600m) will figure as one of two major targets for the three-year-old this season.

Too Good To Refuse was a strong and consistent performer in his home state of Queensland through the early stages of the 2015 Spring Carnival before a hit-and-run trip south heralded a credible fifth in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) at Randwick most recently on October 10th.

Forster is confident the horse is at his best in races between 1400m and a mile, and believes kicking the Rothesay colt off in a Sunshine Coast minor this Saturday will allow ample time to reach peak condition ahead of the 2016 Randwick Guineas.

“He is about 90 to 95 per cent at his best for Saturday’s return,” Forster told AAP.

“It is a field of good three-year-olds but the Sunshine Coast should suit as it will give him a chance to wind up and use his big finishing burst.

“His first start in Sydney will be the Hobartville Stakes which should be an ideal Guineas lead-up for him.

“But I am really keen to get him into the Stradbroke field.

“Three-year-olds have a great record in the Stradbroke and it is back at Eagle Farm this year which will also suit.”

Too Good To Refuse beat only one runner home in his competitive debut at the Gold Coast in last 2014, but returned to racing in good form in 2015 for a close second in the Gold Training Maiden Plate (1200m) on February 27th.

Breaking through for a maiden race win in the XXX Maiden Plate (1200m) on July 5th, Too Good To Refuse ran seventh in the Access Insulation 2.y.o Handicap (1200m) on a fortnight later but responded well in placing third in the Brandons Handicap (1640m) at Doomben; booking his place in the Spring Champion Stakes with consecutive race wins in the Barry Nilsson Lawyers Handicap (1350m) and Brisbane Marriott Hotel Handicap (1640m).
