2017 Randwick Guineas Field and Barrier Draw

March 1st, 2017

Fourteen three-year-olds have been confirmed to chase a Group 1 win in Sydney on Saturday following the completion and release of the 2017 Randwick Guineas final field and barrier draw this morning.

Comin’ Through has built well towards his run in the Randwick Guineas and has drawn ideally into the race field in barrier 4, with leading Hong Kong hoop Joao Moreira in the saddle.

A half-brother to multiple Group 1 champion Criterion, Comin’ Through stamped himself as one to watch upon debuting in spring and capped his season with a smart win in the Group 3 Carbine Club Stakes (1600m) on Derby Day.

Resuming this time for fifth in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m), the Fastnet Rock colt worked home well to finish third in the Group 3 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) a fortnight ago and will relish a return to his pet distance of a mile in the Randwick Guineas.

Prized Icon returned to the races for a smart sixth in the Hobartville Stakes, but will undoubtedly require luck on Saturday after drawing into the Randwick Guineas field in the outside barrier.

Capping an impressive two-year-old campaign with a maiden win at the highest level in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) last autumn, Prized Icon resumed in spring for fourth in the Group 3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m), but failed to beat a single runner home in the Group 2 Chelmsford Stakes (1600m) second-up.

Responding well to finish a credible third in the Group 3 Gloaming Stakes (1800m) on September 24th, the More Than Ready colt worked home well for third in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) and while finishing mid-pack in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Vase (2040m), produced a career-best effort to win the Group 1 Victoria Derby (2500m) by nearly three lengths.

A photo was required to separate Man From Uncle and Echo Effect in the Hobartville Stakes and both horses will carry terrific form into the Randwick Guineas.

Man From Uncle stamped himself as a gelding to follow through his debut campaign in spring and has been a revelation for Anthony Cummings this time; winning both the Eskimo Prince Stakes and Hobartville Stakes.

The Uncle Mo gelding has been charged with overcoming the awkward barrier 13, but will be partnered by jockey Jason Collett, who piloted Le Romain to success in last year’s Randwick Guineas.

Echo Effect appears as though he will relish a step up to a mile and is positioned ideally in barrier 2, with regular hoop Paul King in the saddle.

Returning for second in the ALM BM71 (1200m) on January 14th, the Reset gelding ran third in a talent-rich Rosehill minor over 1400m on January 28th, in what was his only other start prior to the Hobartville Stakes.
